During Advent, each of the classes have been collecting loose change to pay for some CAFOD Christmas gifts. The classes looked through the CAFOD catalogue to see which gifts that they would like to purchase. Some of the gifts that have been bought have included a mosquito net, a vegetable patch, honey bees and clean water. Well done everyone!
All of the Infant children did a nativity play for their families. Nursery did ‘My First Nativity’, Reception did ‘Wriggly Nativity’, Year 1 did ‘The Nativity’ and Year 2 did ‘Lights, Camel. Action!’. All of the plays were fabulous and the audience loved them.
The Juniors performed a carol concert that told the story of Christmas. They all sang beautifully.
On Friday 8th December, St. Mary’s Blackbrook celebrated the feast of Our Lady Immaculate, who the school is named after. We had a whole school assembly where we learnt about the visitation of Mary from the Angel Gabriel and the difficulties that Mary faced. Together we said the Hail Mary. Each class was presented with a picture of Our Lady for their worship table, each child received a prayer card of The Hail Mary, and we all celebrated with a drink and a biscuit.
To celebrate the beginning of Advent, we had our Crib and Advent assemblies. The Infants brought the crib figures to the crib to tell the story of the nativity. The Juniors were presented with wreaths to make their own Advent wreaths for class.
